Kristin Miller Interview

BBB:
If you could be a pair of jeans what style would you be? Why?
KM: Wow! Totally took me off guard! Not the question I was expecting. I would definitely be a pair of relaxed boot cut jeans. Nothing that would cling to you or make you uncomfortable. I’m pretty low maintenance. The kind of person who can get up and go. That’d be me!
BBB: Do you believe in love at first sight?
KM: I thought I did…until I met my husband. On our first date, he said he believes in lust at first sight and love at first communication. I believe him, hands down.
BBB: If you could go to the past or future, where would you stay and why?
KM: Ohh, great question! I would go to the past, to April 1912 to be exact! I’m a huge Titanic fanatic, so if I could go back and watch the launch, that would make my day!
BBB: What would you say are the main advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing versus being traditionally published or the other way around?
KM: First, I have to say that traditional and self-publishing paths differ for everyone. I am both traditionally published and self-published. In traditional publishing, I felt like I could focus more on the book, and didn’t have to worry about the cover or formatting or things that NY publishers had huge departments to take care of. That’s a huge plus, in the sense I could wear one hat and make that one amazing! However, that’s also the downfall of traditional publishing and the plus side of self-publishing. It’s GREAT that I have control over the cover, formatting, back matter etc., because I remember going through a lot of things thinking I’d do them differently if I had been in control. Now, for my self published titles, I have that control. Luckily, with Entangled (the publisher for So I Married a Werewolf), I feel like my team is a family and we work together to make the entire package shine.
BBB: Please tell us more about So I Married a Werewolf and the storyline that drives it.
KM: Carter Griffin, enforcing officer for the Seattle Wolf Pack, has a problem. He’s been offered the promotion of his dreams…if he can find a wife to prove he’s over his playboy ways. But Carter’s already walked the matrimonial road and bought the stinkin’ T-shirt. Besides, a werewolf only gets one fated mate. Been there, done that.
All werewolf dog trainer Faith Hamilton wants to do is earn enough green stuff to put her younger brother through college. Okay, okay, so she also totally wants Carter, her sexy next-door neighbor, to look at her as more than a friend. It’s too bad size 12 and plain isn’t his type. At all.
The two friends strike a deal to help one another out. They must face a variety of challenges from a psycho ex-girlfriend to a Yorkie with a shoe fetish…and that pesky problem of only having one-fated mate in a lifetime. Will a relationship ruin their friendship…or spark a love neither anticipated?
BBB: How many more books will there be in the Seattle Wolf Pack series?
KM: So I Married a Werewolf is the third and final book in the Seattle Wolf Pack Series. There will, however, be three books in the San Francisco Wolf Pack Series. The new series will piggyback on the same world created with the Seattle Wolf Pack, but the light will shine on a new city, with new, exciting Alpha heroes!
BBB: What sets the Seattle Wolf Pack series apart from other books in the same genre?
KM: The werewolves in the Seattle Wolf Pack are just like you and me. They have jobs and bills. They pay mortgages and mow the lawn. The men are ruggedly Alpha, protective over their women, and snarky as hell. The women are independent, and refuse to let a man tell them what to do. Born werewolves can shift at whim, and turned werewolves shift at the full moon. They don’t have multiple partners. They don’t fight in wolf form (unless they’re protecting their soul mate), and they don’t run around howling and scaring children. The books are very much “Werewolf Next Door” type books, light-hearted and fun.
BBB: What types of creatures/characters can readers expect in your world?
KM: Werewolves are the only paranormal creatures in the Seattle Wolf Pack realm…for now! There might be the possibility of feline shifters in the San Francisco Wolf Pack world, but you’ll have to wait and see.
BBB: Name one funny trait your have, that you would like others to know.
KM: I’m such a geek!
BBB: As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up (besides a writer)?
KM: All I ever wanted to be was a 7th/8th grade English teacher. I have always loved reading and writing, though I never thought I could finish a novel until I tried!
BBB: What cartoon character best represents your personal philosophy?
KM: Oh my gosh! Umm…I would say Tweety Bird. I like to pretend I’m innocent by batting my eyelashes, but those who know me best know that I have a crafty (see: manipulative) side to me when I really, really want something.
BBB: What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
KM: Hands! I remember the first time I saw my husband’s hands. He was holding a football. Whew. I was a goner from there.
BBB: If we came to your home and looked in your refrigerator, what would we find?
KM: That changes weekly, depending on whether or not I’m under deadline. If I’m under deadline (like now) you’ll find lots of Pepsi, Starbucks drinks, yogurt, jelly, cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Give me a loaf of bread, and I could live for a month on those things. If I’m not under deadline, I love to cook, so you’ll find leftovers galore! We’re talking chicken and dumplings, bone-in roast with veggies, homemade stew, turkey-tomato soup…
BBB: What’s coming up for you for the rest of 2014 and into 2015?
KM: I have two sweet small town romances releasing later this year, along with the first San Francisco Wolf Pack book. For 2015, I’ll have at least five additional contemporaries and the rest of the books from the new wolf pack. Busy year ahead, and I can’t wait!
