Meet MaisyExcerpt:
PrologueThe light from the street lamps made gray circles on the sidewalk and pavement all around her. Maisy rested against the building, adjusted her fedora hat, and pulled her last cherry lollipop from her pocket.
Distracted by the sweet scent of her candy, she didn’t notice her dog’s low growls that should have warned her of the approach of someone on a bike who was rapidly coming toward her. Suddenly, she heard a low, gruff voice call her name. She looked up in time to see a paper being tossed into one of the circles of light on the ground. She pushed herself off of the building and made her way toward the lamp post. With unsteady fingers, Maisy reached down to pick up the note. She opened the crinkled paper and saw it was smudged with dirt from where it had rested on the sidewalk. It only took her a moment to read the note.
If you ever want to see your lollipops again, forget about the missing mice.-The Black Boot
Hereyes narrowed into tiny slits. The Black Boot, as he had taken to calling himself, appeared to be nothing but a thief. Maisy didn’t know how, but she was going to take him down. Of course, she had to figure out who he was first. It was bad enough that he had stolen the school’smascots, but now he had admitted to stealing her collection of cherry lollipops. And nobody got away with stealing Maisy’s cherry lollipops. My Review:
The story is about 45 pages, which is a good length for elementary readers -and it has chapters, too. The writing of Elizabeth Woodrum is excellent. Sometimes very lyric.
Maisy Sawyer, is a mystery solving fourth grader with an affinity for cherry flavored lollipops, who likes to solve mysteries. She's very serious about it, and good at it too. Everyone knows that Maisy can help you out, and she expects to be paid in the form of cherry lollipops!
She's always got her notebook with her writing everything down. She even uses a typewriter when typing up her notes because it helps her focus on the case. Beside all of this her loves to cherry lollops, she also love her dog Reesie, and hanging out with her best friend, Veronica who like chocolate cake as much as Maisy like cherry lollipops .She and Veronica had a crush on James the 5th grader who is smart and a very good athlete. She also liked Vince Veronica's brother.
In Maisy and the Missing Mice, Maisy tries to solve the mystery surrounding who kidnapped the school's mascots, two adorable and well loved mice. As soon as Maisy and the rest of the school find out about the missing mice - Whodunit - she on the case.
Black Boot a kidnapper and a thief who stole the school’s mascots and later on, her lollipops, threatening her he’d crush all her lollipops if she got involved. As Maisy gathers clues, she also has to deal with Veronica’s upcoming birthday party. The kidnapper tries to throw Maisy off his trail by stealing her lollipop stash and leaving notes, warning her to stay away. But Maisy remains undeterred until the mystery is solved.
I liked it whenever Maisy is focused on solving a mystery, the colors of the world around her leeched away and everything in black and white. This thing give to story a dream like quality like in an old Film Noir . And guess what, when she got a clue it come in color.
The plot has a surprising nice End .... Sooooo I do recommend it to you guys. and excpect to resd more stuff from Elizabeth Woodrum.
