Intimidator by Cari Silverwood
(Preyfinders #2)
Publication date: May 7th 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Science Fiction
Synopsis:
This is Book 2 in the new Preyfinder series.
Book 1, Precious Sacrifice, is currently in the anthology, Kept.
Willow has her hands full scraping out a life in a grungy neighborhood where drugs and crime are the norm. Life is hard, but it’s about to get harder. Being transformed into a sexual pet for an alien warrior may be her only way out.
But Stom, the man she’s been awarded to as a battle honor, has no use for a female, not when his heart is still in a million pieces.
Though the need to be Stom’s mate is overwhelming her, mending his heart isn’t going to be enough. His enemies are searching, looking for the women who are more than they seem, and she’s in their hands before she discovers she’s more-than-human.
Sometimes it sucks to be a chosen one.
Purchase:
Storm has been observing Willow at a pub, waiting for his chance to kiss her, so he can claim her.*****He’d follow after a few minutes, see where she went. Then Stom’s warrior-enhanced hearing picked up a small shriek, far away, but close enough to be just outside this building.Her.As he ran for the door behind the bar, hurdling the counter and sweeping glasses and bottles to the floor with the tail of his coat, he left behind a thunder of smashing glass. People yelled for him to stop. But out of all this, apart from his anxiety over her safety, his one other concern was that he’d recognized that cry. Anyone else he’d seen here tonight could sing an entire song and he’d not know who it was.Why was this so?Be inconspicuous? So he guessed that meant he shouldn’t use the twin 357 Magnums he wore in a double underarm holsters, or the sub-compact Heckler & Koch MP5 slung at his back beneath the coat, or the... Pity. He could make such a mess with all these neat human weapons. On his way through the kitchen, he snatched up a bunch of knives and forks and stuck them into a pocket. He thrust open the back door and counted back the number of spectators he’d run past. Five, minus whoever was outside. It would do. He could hear the two men somewhere around the corner murmuring threats at Willow. He growled and stalked forward. If he killed these two, maybe that meant he didn’t have to count them? The brick wall of the pub dog-legged to the right and he followed it into a short alley. At the far end, past a half-open dumpster, was a quiet street with a warehouse and a few cars. One insect-shrouded streetlight shed meager light. He kept going past the dumpster and found them. They had her backed into a double door, with Turf holding her wrists above her head. Skull-head had his palm over her mouth and was shoving her T-shirt up above her bra. She was trying to kick them and screaming muffled curses. The man removed his palm from her face long enough to slap her hard, once.A rage like he’d not felt for eons shrieked in and tore his notions of serenity into scrap-sized pieces.

All the cravings of the past day or so resurrected in a small tsunami. Lust. In front of Willow, was a man who embodied that in every molten move, in every cell of his well-sculpted body.“I’m bad?” she whispered.“You. Mmm.” Stom lowered his head and scented her neck, lips pressing on her, here, there – kisses that stirred her more than they should, because they promised so much. Where else might he kiss? Drifts of air cooled her where his nose touched her skin, where he breathed on her.“Bad. Definitely.” Then he licked her neck, slowly, in one helluva long caress with his tongue, like a predator tasting his mate, before he kissed her softly again. She shivered. I don’t know this guy. Not really. Am I such a slut?“You’re beautiful. And you smell so good I want to eat you all up, every time I’m near. Why the fuck is that?”The tinge of menace made her go up on her toes. Then he bit the side of her neck, hard. She keened, threatened by, enraptured by, the savagery of his teeth sinking into her muscle. Helpless, she shut her eyes. She tried not to let her collapsing legs make her slide down the tree trunk and straight to the ground. She had no wish to look like a weak female unable to resist...cause if she did, it seemed like he might take her, here, now.His teeth let go.Fucked against a tree. God. What an idea.Where he held her wrists onto the bark, she tugged again, but even with a hurt hand his grip was fierce. What had she done? She’d thought Stom the sort of man who needed an invitation to get going. Seemed as if shooting him had done the trick. Next time she wanted a date, she’d put a bullet in him.He put his mouth to her ear, nuzzling her there, while he explored her below – fondling her breast, her belly, and her hip, then tugging up her T-shirt. He took a handful of her breast like he owned it, and squeezed so much it hurt.Something about being forced against the tree, about him making her stay there while he played with her body, sizzled through her like lightning through rain.*****
No. Stom cleared his throat and backed her further under the shower then began soaping her.Amazing how he managed, even getting her to turn around so he could wash her hair and watching the water flow in rippling and twisting currents down her back. Willow’s muscles were heaven under his hands. Smoothing away the residues of soot on her pleased him immensely. It hit some spot inside him that made him know, yes, he was doing good. Her soft noises of pleasure made him have to stop once or twice to reassemble his brain, but he kept going. Clean her. Get her right.Make her a woman again and not some soot-covered succubus.Suck. The word in his mind made his cock twitch and his fingers dug into her shoulders.“Ow!” Willow flinched and spun around, almost slipping on the wet stone. Her full breasts jiggled, swayed. The pink-brown centers drew him. They were all puckered up from the play of water over them, or perhaps from his rushed soaping. The two little taut buds had been under his palms, bubbles of soap catching on them...“Oh,” she murmured, looking down at where his pants were pushed out by his erection. When she didn’t raise her eyes and the very tip of her tongue emerged from her lips to curl moistly against them, he groaned. This wasn’t why he’d kept her, remember? He needed to sort out her life, somehow. Stop her getting killed. Sex was just, was not... He inhaled a shuddery breath. She twisted her mouth and took a partial step toward him, enough that she nudged his pants and, more importantly, pushed into the tip of his cock with her stomach. Her mischievous smile as she rolled her hips side to side, pushing at him some more, made him growl.*****
Evil versus Good versus NaughtinessYou don’t always get to have really bad, bad guys in stories. But take a soap opera scifi erotic romance and you’re almost guaranteed a few. Intimidator is Luke vs Darth Vader but no movie hero ever gets to do what Stom does with Willow. Erotic romance, yum.I’ve always loved scifi books and TV shows like Firefly and Star Trek, but this Preyfinder series is the first where I could let loose with my crazy imagination with an alien as my hero.Expect erotic.“I’m bad?” she whispered.“You. Mmm.” He lowered his head and scented her neck, lips pressing on her, here, there – kisses that stirred her more than they should, because they promised so much. Where else might he kiss? Drifts of air cooled her where his nose touched her skin, where he breathed on her.“Bad. Definitely.” Then he licked her neck, slowly, in one helluva long caress with his tongue, like a predator tasting his mate, before he kissed her softly again.Expect darkness and tragedy.Though she writhed and nearly tore her arms from their sockets, nothing came loose, her body stayed there, splayed out, blood trickling from the holes. Fear clawed at her so hard that red prickled at her eyes.Expect sexy alpha men.Willow studied him from waist upward, swallowing, shaking her head as if not sure of what she saw, her neck going back and up to encompass his height. “You’re big...and your weird tattoos. Shit.”“True. I am large.”She giggled.Expect silly humor. There’s only one alien trope I definitely am not visiting in this series and that’s tentacles. I know all about tentacle sex due to some accidental googling. No way. Not unless someone has calamari for lunch.Expect scifi action scenes where things go BOOM. But most of all, expect romance with a little kinkiness. Though each book in the Preyfinder series features one couple, such as Stom and Willow, there’s an overarching plot where a galactic war is played out in our backyard – planet Earth. But the women in these stories aren’t just flowers in a vase, they get to play a part in some kick ass action too.Action scenes are something I love writing.Once the sexy scenes are done, and the happily ever after is tied up, we need to see some bad guy alien butt get annihilated in a bullet-flying, scene of mass destruction. Walls crumbling, body count rising, lasers zapping, eyeballs rolling across the floor. Screams...What? Too much for you? Spoilsport. Okay, have some more smooching.Whatever it is you look for, this series has it in abundance. Except tentacles.
*****Alien Captives on CrackWhat is it about stories that are about being captured by an alien? It’s definitely not the hours or the pay.If you’re a scifi and fantasy reader as well as a romance reader who loves growly alpha males, chances are, you enjoy these stories.Being captured by a fierce alien warrior and taken away to be his sex slave has a certain appeal, though it may help if you have KINK tattooed on your heart and your butt. Like many romances, you are the one and only woman for him, unless it’s a ménage. Being so wanted that an alien can’t keep his hands off you kind of tops most fantasies in a real excessive crazy way. The only hurdle is your imagination. If, like me, you’re a long time reader of scifi, if you love Star Wars, Joss Whedon’s Firefly series, or maybe Dr. Who, you have a foot in the door... Or should I say, an alien’s hand on your ass as he totes you away? These aren’t hardcore tech-talk stories, and I have read those. These books are generally lighter scifi reads, but oh so much glorious fun.I could see mine as a graphic novel, especially when the action scenes hit.In Intimidator, I could toss in scantily clad women, as well as alien men with attitude, muscles, and enough weaponry to make them fall through a poorly reinforced floor. I could add a dash of humor and yet also have that nasty undercurrent of menace, and some violent and slightly gory fight scenes. I could have Love with a big sweet red heart and a capital R for the romance.Yes, love has an R in it, don’t knock my spelling. I have the bear-sized Preyfinders at my typing fingertips and they know where you live. If a black car pulls up at your house, don’t forget to scream and pretend you don’t want to be whisked away to a harem. Or be ravished by a man who makes you go all wide-eyed and bite your lip, and drool. Here’s a napkin. So that’s what you will get with my Preyfinders series – stories written by someone who is in love with scifi, yet won’t send your brain into a spin with too much talk about the alpha photon schematics of the engine of a Baal class cruiser. Ahem. No, instead I give you Kink, Smuttalicious sex scenes, and a real Plot that spans a galaxy-wide war. There’s an Alpha alien man who is in lust at first but with some hard nipple twisting falls in love with my heroine. Added extras are smidges of silly humor and bullet-time battles with a moderate body count of bad guys (all those Bs!) Plus some whiz bang alien super-duper space thingummies that go BLAM, ZING, and shit like that.Shiny enough for you? Go buy. Pack your toothbrush and slave girl outfit.

Aliens, Romance, and Sex without TentaclesThere’s a freedom in writing a scifi or fantasy story that you can’t get anywhere else. Imagination is King but if you go too far you’ll have readers scratching their heads over the barrage of weird alien language and critters with sixteen legs. A bit like trying to figure out whose hand is where in a ménage, only far worse.I kept that in mind while writing Intimidator. I wanted a story you could immerse yourself in without too much excess over the top stuff. Crap-tech I think I’ll christen this sort of too sciency stuff that can be dumped on you in a story. This is a story for those who like to stretch their imagination but don’t want to give it a hernia. So here is what you will get.STOM - My sexy alien man who IS very human and who has a heart that melts a little and goes thud thud when he sees his woman/ bond mate, Willow. He’s got a stripy chest too. LickNO TENTACLE SEX. Or tentacles on my man. I decided, strangely, that the calamari could wait for another book.ROMANCE but with a big helping of alpha male.CAPTURE FANTASY. But sweet capture fantasy, in other words, it’s all sexy and delicious and Willow has a hard time not swooning when Stom walks in. Except for when she’s scowling at him, or shooting him.KINKINESS. Sigh. I have a hard time not including kink in my stories so my alphas are, minimum, always keen on the dominance thing. Stom has a fling with using a collar and leash on Willow but he’s more growly beast type and not into S and m apart from threatening a spanking here and there. I don’t think he ever followed through. Where did I go wrong?Scifi ACTION. Yep, I’m a Joss Whedon/ Firefly/ Star Wars fan, and love adding a few fight and battle scenes. Even if my women do the swoony ‘please take me’ thing with their men, they’re not afraid of wielding sword, Glock, flame, or claws. The men are warriors and armed to the teeth, of course. As a result of the above expect a modicum of GORE and a smidge of HORROR too. But it’s only there to make you worry. Which is good, right? This is a series called Preyfinders – I hope to do four books all up, including Precious Sacrifice, the Book 1 novella that’s out in the Kept anthology. So strap on your holsters, unrack those spiky alien rifles with little buttons and shit, hang onto the nearest alien hunk (uh-uh, no nibbling on him), and RUN.If we leave you behind the factory queen (think huge monster insect beast thing) gets to play with you and she likes brains...and YouTube, she has a thing for that too.
*****Scifi and Kinky Capture FantasiesAre you secretly in love with the idea of being whisked away and ravished by an alien?Never fear, most of those who read alpha male romances are on the same sort of track. There’s something super sexy about a man who is willing to chase after you and make you his. In scifi stories almost anything goes. You can rewrite and twist the morals of the alien man to suit your story. All we need is a dash of poetic license, a big helping of menacing alien man with a thing for the heroine, and a lady who’s willing to think past the strange appearance and customs of her lover from the stars.Think of all those pirate stories and sheik and highlander stories where the woman is kidnapped, yes, I do believe this is another variation on the theme. If you’re also into fantasy and science fiction, even better. If you love action stories with plots that hinge on grand events that will shape the future of humankind, we’re getting warmer. My Preyfinder series aims to satisfy the geek in readers. It’s for the adventurous reader who wants to take that dive into a place of wonder, and get their romance addiction prescription filled at the same time.To get there, we have to begin with my people in sad places though. Their world is filled with more misery and tragedy than happiness. Not much is right. But it’s the journey in stories that makes it worth getting to the ending. The wind came from where the sun bleached the horizon, fluttering the ashes higher off the scorched ground, a bitter flock of blackness that clouded the sky for miles. Stom sucked in a breath through his mask. Unlike the trail of ten fighting men who swept out to his left and right, he’d removed his helmet – the goggles and the mask with a breathing filter was it. He needed the touch of the breeze on his face, no matter how acrid. On his retinal map, there was a tiny green triangle at this spot. This had once been his home.Nasskia, little Bon, and her older brother Septis would lie here, somewhere, buried underneath the ash at his feet.Tragedy shapes our lives. Sometimes it makes us stronger. Sometimes it just makes us bitter and angry. Stom has lost his one true love and his children to the enemy. He’s vowed never to forget them and he’s gone off to war, to kill. So when he’s given the chance to take a woman from Earth as his pet, he finds the idea repulsive. Only what’s he to do when he finds out she will die unless he makes her his?Figuring out his own head isn’t easy, so when the enemy turns up on our planet, and wants to conquer it, Stom is not a happy alien.Though Stom and Talia from Intimidator may be heading for love and a Happily Ever After, to get there they have to confront not just their own inner failings but imminent death or something worse. These pesky aliens don’t just want to conquer the universe, they want humans and our brains on their side. But they particularly want Willow, because she is special. If only they’d been warned. Special people can get nasty when you bother them, and Willow has Stom and the Preyfinders on her side.AUTHOR BIO
