I'm publishing a story this month - and it's probably not the one you expected...

June
has been crazy-busy for me. What it boils down to is: I'm publishing a
story next week that hadn't even been thought up a month ago. I know,
amazing, right?
My JuNoWriMo Adventure
June 1st I plunged into JuNoWriMo not with the novella ( Convergence, A Flawed Story) I'd planned, but with a prequel ( Pulled, A Flawed Short Story). I finished the short in two days and begun editing it while I wrote the novella. Before the end of the week I'd sent Pulled out and received encouraging feedback from two beta readers.
Here we are, three weeks into June, when I should be frantically JuNoWriMo-ing, and what am I doing? Publishing new stories.
I decided that getting more of my works out takes priority
over completing the full 50,000 words this month June. Being an indie
writer is a fun ride, and I love the freedom of setting my own
priorities and randomly publishing impromptu projects. That's immediate
gratification at its best.
As usual, this wonderful cover art was designed by the amazing Steven Novak.
Pulled (A Flawed Short Story)
If you enjoyed Empath,
I have a feeling you're going to love this short story in the same
universe. None of the characters or locations crossover yet (the
connections will happen in Convergence), so this story can
stand alone, and reading order isn't important. This is the first time
I've ever written an eight-year-old main character, and she's no
ordinary kid. As you can probably guess, Juniper is special: she
is Flawed. Here's a little more about the story:
Eight-year-old Juniper has been labeled many things—troubled kid,
orphan, runaway—but none of her foster families have known what she
really is: a girl with a unique and brutally inconvenient ability to
teleport.
Her spontaneous jumps are not only beyond her control, they get her into
trouble. When Juniper disappears, no one believes her wild stories, so
she's stopped trying to convince them.
One day when Juniper gets pulled away, finding her way back is harder
than ever. Stranded on the side of a deserted highway, she must rely on
her own instincts to determine who is a creepy stranger and who she can
trust.
Resourcefulness may get her home, but is getting home enough when you don't have parents that love you?
Juniper knows something most people don’t: there are others like her
with unexplained abilities. Until now, she’s exercised stranger-danger
caution, but maybe these people can offer what she needs.
Will Juniper find a family she can share her secrets with?
Free For My Favorite Readers
I'm
absolutely thrilled about this story and the new characters I got to
hang out with. Coming up with new abilities is one of my favorite parts
of writing about the Flawed.
Pulled will soon be available on Amazon, but I can't wait to share it with you, so I'm giving away free copies to the first twenty-five people that sign up. All you have to do is agree to write and post your review on Amazon. Interested? Here's the sign up form.
I'm still plugging away on edits for Outsider, so plan to see that one released in just a few months.
I hope you're having a wonderful June!
~ Becca
