My review
Usually I'm not an addict fan of vampire
novels... but LM Justus's first novel was intriguing and I found
myself eagerly reading the series.
Darkness Reigns
was a solid middle book. Its plot was largely self contained, but by no
means standalone. You definitely need to have read the first book, but I
found that it wasn’t important that I couldn’t remember all of the
details from it.
Sometimes a book told from multiple perspectives which can get a bit
confusing. Reed’s chapters are told in first person, while Sarah’s and Nathaniel’s
are both third. The speech
and thoughts of Reed were very different from that of both Sarah and
Nathaniel.
For Nathaniel and Sarah, each voice was really distinctive. It was great to get inside each of their heads
and see what they were thinking though each experience Sarah, smart and compassionate and not afraid to take things into her own
hands. Nathaniel a great vampire character. with his internal struggle between the human and the vampire worlds Than, he started to
feel an emotional connection to Sarah and Nathaniel.
Nathaniel 200 yo, has dark
hair and normally deep brown, if they turn light golden color, it was a
sure sign that he needed to feed soon. And If the color faded to a 7 L.
M. Justus light gray, we were really in trouble because the girls
(Sarah, Sophi and Trudy) would start looking to him as food.
In the 1st book we met Reed Hennessy , A typical teenager,
seventeen-year-old who doesn’t realize how lucky he is to lead
a normal life until he loses everything, including his humanity. The
attacker who slaughters his family and destroys their home turns out to
be a vampire, a creature Reed had considered a myth. Reed is a vampire
with unique ability to walk in sunlight.
Reed struggles in the dark
underworld he didn’t even know existed. With his only two allies in his
fight to stay alive are his reluctant mentor, Nathaniel, a vampire with
over two hundred years’ worth of emotional baggage, and Sarah, a rookie
cop with a secret ability of her own.
Now, In the 2nd book the plot became a survival story, as the group tries to
outrun an ancient vampire hell bent on revenge. which, give the story
its own voice, as the characters have a new quest. The setting take place in New
York. A City that is a wasteland. More than eight million people are
dead or worse...infected with a virus. The power was out and phone
service was down, so they had a lot of unanswered questions. like , if
the vampire-human hybrids were a localized problem, or whether the
problem had spread worldwide
After
a failed attempt to stop the spread of a virus that turns people

Things stat to come out of control
when an old enemy reappears to issue a challenge–an ultimatum that will
mean certain death for at least one member of Reed’s group.
The
revenants - were the result of the late vampire King of New York’s
virus. He’d had a grand plan to turn all the humans on earth into
vampires by infecting them with 3 L. M. Justus vampire DNA, but he
hadn’t perfected the virus before releasing it into the city’s water
supply. The revenants had a vampire’s thirst for blood, but none of our
speed or strength. They also seemed to be completely mindless and
unfortunately, immune to sunlight.
The vampiric queen of Sun Jose - a ruthless young girl with tight blonde curls
and blue eyes and very cruel. She represent a rare sample of vampiric female as turning a woman to vampire has a 50% chance of success. after she gave them an ultimatum to change one of the girls to vamp. + a demonstration of her abilities (those that turn her to queen) they cross the board to Canada.
Now the need get a permission from the other vampire rulers - Marcel the King of Montreal and maybe some protection from the King against the queen. the good thing was that the King of Montreal is also rumored to be more accepting and open-minded than many of his peers.
The reading level is a perfect for YA.
