BBB: What’s your favorite love story? (movie or book) SS: My current favorite is Peaky Blinders, this rocking Netflix series about a gypsy family after world war I. Love it. I’m Team May all the way! Anyone out there watched this series? it is kind of like Sons of Anarchy meets Les Miserable.
BBB: You’ve just been hired to a promotions position at Kellogg Co. What would you put in a new breakfast cereal box as a gimmick?
SS: An edible Tony the Tiger. I had a good friend that worked for Kellogg, she would get a kick out of it
BBB: If I wasn’t afraid I would _________ (What?)
SS: Watch scary movies. I am a complete wuss. My husband and I tried to watch Penny Dreadful and I hid through the credits and only made it through the first half. I seriously think the last scary movie I saw was Friday the 13th at a slumber party in the 6th grade.
BBB: Do you believe in love at first sight?
SS: I do! My husband did a total number on me when I met him. We were at the foreign service exam in Houston, Texas. he had been chatting me up, and I thought he was smokin’ hot, but it was Houston, you have to be careful with strange men. Then as I was leaving with my girlfriends he walked right up to us and asked me out, right in front of them. Heart thump.
BBB: Please tell us more about Dragon Her Back and the storyline that drives it.
SS: This is a story that has been brewing from the start of the series. I’d planned on Jane’s story next, but my street team was dying for Mei and Darius. I already knew what I wanted to happen and why Mei was so frosty, so it was great to get their story out there. This story has a bit darker background to it, Mei has survived some tough stuff. Thier road to happily ever after is very, very bumpy.
BBB: How many more books will there be in the Las Vegas Dragons series?
SS: I have at least one more plotted, Jane’s story. I’ve been yearning for a fresh location too, maybe Istanbul–somewhere off the beaten track that would require a complete new world and new set of dragons. We’ll see!
BBB: What sets the Las Vegas Dragons series apart from other books in the same genre?
SS: These dragon live hidden in plain sight in a swanky Las Vegas Casino. They are very contemporary and ultra hip. They love luxury and opulence in their human forms, but in their dragon forms they are all beast. It is a great dichotomy to play off the conflicting parts of their characters.
BBB: What types of characters / creatures can readers expect in your world?
SS: I really like multi-cultural characters. I read Warprize years and years ago and I loved how Elizabeth Vaughn wove in ethnic characters. I also really like for my heroines to have to grow, that have to face their mistakes and chin-up move on before they can find the happily ever after. It is pretty common for them to mess up epically. I really like my heros Alpha.
BBB: What are your favorite hobbies? (besides reading or writing)
SS: I love being on the river with my hubby and kids during the summer. We just went duck hunting for the first time over Thanksgiving. I jog (slowly) because it keeps my blood sugar stable, I’m a type II diabetic.
BBB: What would you do if you were the last person on this earth?
SS: Oh. I’d cry. Then I’d get on with it.
BBB: What is the one thing you looking forward to the most in 2015?
SS: I’m looking forward to diving into some new book ideas. Can’t wait!
BBB: Do you make New Years resolutions? If so, what are yours for the coming year, if not why?
SS: I suck at resolutions
BBB: What’s coming up for you for in 2015?
SS: Expect more dragon books, and some non-fiction author classes, as well as my new series.
