The first time I met Remy, I walked through the front doors of Dark Sepulcher, on a mission to find out what happened to my mother. A lot had changed since then. Now I find myself living in Blind Bluff Manor, a sanctuary owned by a human Nathan Tiernan. There’s so much wrong with that concept. We’re the only two humans living here among three Deamhan. Hallie, a newly made Deamhan who has still yet to understand her new life, Anastasia, a Ramanga, and Remy who is a Lamia.
As I sat down with Remy, I knew that the interview was going to be harder to conduct and less of something that would benefit my understanding of Deamhan.
Veronica: First I’d like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule for the interview.
Remy: Of course! Anything for a dear friend.
Veronica: In a few words, could you tell us little bit about yourself?
Remy: As you already know, my name is Remy. I currently reside at Blind Bluff Manor and I’m a Lamia Deamhan.
Veronica: So what exactly is a Deamhan?
Remy: What I am, love! Currently there are four clans of Deamhan: Ramanga, Metusba, Lugat, and Lamia.
Veronica: What’s the difference?
Remy: The difference is how we get our sustenance from humans like yourself. Deamhan are vampires who feed off the psychic energies from our victims. Ramanga get their daily dosage of vitamins from the energy within the blood with the use of their doggie teeth. As a Lamia, I suck it straight from the mouth like juice through a straw…
Veronica: I don’t think Ramanga have doggie teeth, Remy.
Remy: You know what I mean.
Veronica: What do you think is the worst and best quality in a Deamhan?
Remy: There are just too many qualities to choose from. My kind is a complicated yet superb species. As soon as we are sired our only desire is to do what is necessary to remain alive. We don’t trust each other. Scratch that. We can’t trust each other. It just isn’t in our nature. This horrid trait is what’s keeping us back from becoming what we’re truly meant to be.
Veronica: And exactly what are you truly meant to be?
Remy: We’re meant to be on top of the food chain.
Veronica: But what about vampires?
Remy: What about them?
Veronica: Clearly, both species don’t get along.
Remy: Deamhan were created to be better in every aspect of them. We’re stronger, faster. Along with humans, they are our sustenance.
Veronica: All humans?
Remy: Yes. Even you my dear Veronica. When I first saw you I thought to myself that I had to have you. The night you ran out of Dark Sepulcher, scared that I might . . . eat you- I only wanted to get to know you, that’s all.
Veronica: I’m not to be had by anyone Remy. I’m not a science experiment.
Remy: Well…not yet anyway.
Veronica: Let’s get back to the interview.
Remy: Yes. Let’s do that. So Veronica, what do you think about me?
Veronica: What do I think about you?
Veronica: Well, I find you menacing and disgusting. I don’t appreciate the way you stalk me here, invading my privacy and space.
Remy: You’re beautiful. Thinking you can harm me with small words.
Veronica: If I wanted to harm you, believe me, you’d know.
Remy: Yes! That’s the Veronica I like and admire.
Veronica: Deamhan don’t like or admire anything.
Remy: Well you know what they say. ‘While we live, let us live.’
Veronica: Who said that?
Remy: Romans. They did have the best poetic mottos, don’t you think?
Veronica: I think we’re done here Remy.
