Author Molly Harper Character Interview and Book Contest LIVE Here!
The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire is the sequel to my novella I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas continuing Gigi Scanlon’s story and exploring her adventures working for the Half-Moon Hollow branch of the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead. She meets the mystery vampire who “followed her enthusiastically” while she was home for Christmas break and tries to determine who may be trying to not only sabotage her at work, but send said mystery vampire after her like a fanged Gigi-seeking missile. Gigi: So, this is my third go-round as a featured character in one of your books. And I have to ask, why are you so mean to me?!
Molly: I’m not mean! Or at least, I’m not mean to you, specifically. I’m equally mean to all of my characters. Did you see some of the stuff I did to your sister?
Gigi: We agreed that I wouldn’t try to find out everything that happened in her story, for the sake of my mental health. I do not need to picture Iris and Cal doing naked things.
Molly: Fair enough.
Gigi: OK, then, why do you keep dragging me out of your box of character toys to play with?
Molly: Because I adored you from the minute I started writing you in The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires. You had your foibles like all teenagers, but you were a really sweet, smart, dependable kid with a wicked sense of humor and absolutely no shyness and about telling adults the way it was. I wanted readers to know what you were going to grow up to be.
Gigi: And why did you decide to send me to work at the Council offices?
Molly: Because nobody has really seen the inner workings of the Council offices before. It’s always been this vaguely threatening shadow organization with vampire SWAT squads and creepy teenage leaders. I thought it would be funny to show that on its surface, it’s a very normal, boring office setting with staff meetings and employee handbooks. But then you see that the office complex has interrogation rooms and sometimes the staff meetings involve yanking a clerk’s fangs out for stealing office supplies.
Gigi: So quirky and sinister.
Molly: Yes, I like to think of it as quirk-ister.
Gigi: How did you go about designing the ideal man for me?
Molly: Well, you’d broken up with your high school sweetheart, Ben, the sweetest, most normal
guy in the world.
Gigi: You made me do it!
Molly: And I knew that you would probably go the opposite route. Someone more experienced, more worldly, someone who reminded you of your father figure, Cal, without being creepily similar. So I came up with Nik, sexy, sophisticated and oddly fascinated with your smart mouth and talent for technology.
Gigi: And a tendency to drop into zombie-fugue states and attack me when I least expect it.
Molly: Well, I couldn’t make him perfect.
Gigi: And you assigned me two insane helicopter vampire parental figures because?
Molly: Because it amused me.
Gigi: (whispers) So. Mean.
Molly: And because I’m an oldest sister myself. I know how I would feel if my baby sister, Manda, went to work for vampires, much less started dating one with a history of attacking her – with no memory of doing so. Hell, I like my brother-in-law just fine and I still gave him a shovel speech.
There was no way Iris was going to let you work for vampires without a fight. And even less chance of Cal and Iris not having total parental meltdowns about you being in danger. And because they were utterly hilarious while having those meltdowns.
Gigi: Mean.
Molly: And I’m not even sorry. Let’s ask the readers some questions about themselves.
What is your best “disaster on the job” story?
If you could work for the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead, in any capacity, what would it be?
What item do you HAVE to have with you in order to get through your day? (lip balm, coffee, music, etc.)

About Molly Harper
Author Bio:
When Molly Harper was eight years old, she set up a “writing office” in her parents’ living room, complete with an old manual typewriter and a toy phone. And she (very slowly) pecked out the story of her third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city. She had a dark sense of humor even then.
When Molly was considerably older, she headed for Western Kentucky University, where she majored in print journalism. After graduation, she landed a job with The Paducah Sun and married her high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. After six years at the newspaper, Molly took a more family-friendly secretarial position at a local church office.
Molly’s books are published by Pocket Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. They are available in print, as e-books and audio books at major book stores and on Amazon. Molly is a native of Kentucky. She lives in Paducah with her husband and children.
