After her parents and twin brother died a year ago, Lucy Kincaid was determined to put together a normal life for herself. With her heart set on college life, Lucy’s dreams of medical school are dashed when a rabid bear attacks her in the middle of suburbia. When Jens, a handsome yet irritable stranger, saves her life, Lucy’s gratitude is cut short when he abducts her, taking her to a land filled with people and creatures she remembers from bedtime stories she assumed were just Scandinavian folklore.
Jens takes Lucy to a world she never expected, and cannot escape. Undraland is teeming with oversized garden gnomes, warrior elves, Nøkken, Fossegrimens, and worst of all, Sirens. Lucy goes further and further down the rabbit hole until she signs up to join a band of thieves bent on taking down Pesta, the last Siren.
I loved Undraland! I was drawn in from the beginning and when it was done, I was left wanting more. (I must admit. that most of the time I found myself highlight the funny paragraphs that made me laugh and there were had been a lot of those)
Mary Twoney is an amazing writer with out of this world imagination. I have never read a book with gnomes in it, but she did a great job at making them into so much more than the normal gnome.
I tell you what, I will never look at gnomes the same way again. The cliffhanger left me in a spot that made me want to scream! I so need to know more and I really want to know what laplanding means.
Meet Lucy Kincaid, a girl who has lost everybody she loves. Her parents died in an accident, her twin brother died of cancer and now she is finally settling in at college with a good friend.
Al she longs for is a simple life; a home of her own with a white picket fence would do just nicely. But her hopes and dreams are dashed when she is attacked by a crazy bear and rescued by a mysterious man who calls himself Jens and who knows way too much about her. Lucy soon finds herself in a world out storybooks with Giants and trolls, elves and gnomes.
Jens knows that Lucy won't understand anything about Undra without explanations from someone she trusts. Undraland, a place remarkably similar to her Uncle Rick’s (Alrick) bedtime stories. Lucy, Discover a mythical world in peril, Lucy is quickly caught up in a scheme to defeat the last siren, Pesta.
Jens is there every step of the way to protect Lucy even if it's from herself but at what price?
Jens & Lucy have explosive chemistry and they argue constantly and yet they have subtle moments of perfect understanding and love.
Based on Scandinavian folklore, Undraland is a fast-paced adventure featuring an intrepid hero, a snarky heroine, and plenty of mythical creatures guaranteed to capture the readers imagination.
As far as secondary characters they are an amazing cast. I'm head over heels for Prince Jamie he is just the sweetest, kindest Prince you'll ever meet. Nik seems like he has a good story behind him and Jens sister is amazing. I really need the next book!
Lucy Kincaid wanted a simple life with a white picket fence, but once Jens took her to Undraland, she knew that wouldn't be in the cards. Learning to maneuver the landmines of laplanding with her boyfriend’s best friend is more than Lucy bargained for. Prince Jamie has access to Lucy’s every thought, making it impossible to have a moment to herself, or run away from her problems.
Pesta, the evil Siren, wants Lucy dead, and will stop at nothing to protect her kingdom that slowly sucks the life from the magical people of Undraland. Nik and Jens lead the way with Lucy as they battle innumerable foes to tear down Pesta's portal in Nøkken.
And now I'll add some more to the general picture.....
This is the second book in the Undraland series and if you haven't read the first please do this one starts off where book one ended. Lucy and Jamie are sick and everyone seems to know what's going on except Lucy.
Now she's hearing Jamie's voice in her head. She is in Laplanded with Jamie because they killed awerebear together. The awerebear has a soul that Pesta put inside him and from killing him together and they became permanently joined. As a result, they always have to stay close together and they can hear each others thoughts as well as some other life changing things I won't spoil....but Lucy is helping to save Jamie from his curse.
So anything can be more complicated it will be, as Jamie love Jen's sister and laplanding is usually good for married people. Luckily, Jamie is just as charming as any Prince you'll ever read about he is kind and gentle and seems to love caring and together they will figure this laplanding thingy.
The merry band of misfits are continuing on their quest to break all the portals of Pesta to Be, but the mission is getting more dangerous each time and the Mouthpiece seems to be onto them.
Pesta, is a siren was the one which the inhabitants of Undraland banished to Be. It was after she and her sisters started to be too dangerous to them. She was the only one that they didn't kill (They couldn't destroy all her race)and was the strongest one. She control be and those who was tired to live anymore came to the her gates, fill the right papers and admitted to her realm. The price for this heaven was to give her their right hand (hands has magic quality for the sirens. If you were a good soul Pesta will let your soul into a bear. The problem is that Pests, is tired from confined to Be. She want to get out, she want more souls, she want more power and she prepare a new gate to Be from the human realm.
The first problem is that the human realm isn't belong to Undra and she don't have this kind of agreement with them. The second problem is she is going to built this gate from the bones of Lucy partial human parents (each gate built from the bones of the right race of Undra, usually from one strong family) and because she don't have enough bones she need to take them from Lucy.
Nik the Nokken which mean, he can convince you about things , make you think things and do them by singing to you). Nik is full of talking. He always glade to tell about his bravery and battle wins. The weird thing is he don't have any scares.
When Lucy learned Nik secrete they get to share a real heart to heart in a touching scene after everyone goes to bed and it brought me to tears.
The second book made me laugh too, but I had some problem with Lucy character. As 20 year , I had this issue of none mature behavior, which sadly ruin my enjoyment of this second book.
