BBB: Tell us 3 things not in your bio we don’t know about you that might make us leery of befriending you. LOL
JG: Well…three things? Oh boy…let’s see. I love to watch old Cookie Monster and Enrie and Bert clips on Youtube for one. I am such a huge Godzilla fanboy that I have his roar as a ringtone much to my future wife’s distress which makes her wish to throw it out the window at times. And I have to admit that I am a complete Bitstrips addict on Facebook. I’m starting to think I have a bigger fanbase for my Bitstrips than my novels.
BBB: Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?
JG: I guess the strangest writing habit I have is that a lot of the time a title for a book will pop into my head and I will say to myself, ‘Wow! Cool title for a book. Okay…what kind of story can you make for it?’ That is how I wrote my first book.
BBB: Have you ever been in trouble with the law?
JG: Other than a couple of minor traffic tickets, nope. And I intend to keep it that way, thank you very much.
BBB: What actors from the PAST (not living now) would you choose to play some of your characters if The Beast Within were made into a movie or a TV show?
JG: Man that is a tough one. I really could see James Dean playing the lead character, Andrew, from my book The Beast Within. He has the rugged looks that Andrew would need.
BBB: How do you keep track of your world building?
JG: A whole lot of coffee and soda. Just joking. I try to keep notes about certain things and dates to try to keep it in one piece and following together. It doesn’t always work,mind you. A lot of the time my worlds get a mind of their own just as much as my characters do.
BBB: Please tell us more about The Beast Within and the storyline that drives it.
JG: The Beast Within is about a young woman who starts working in a bar to help her earn money while in college. She falls hard for the head bouncer of the bar, Andrew. But she doesn’t know that Andrew is much, much more than what he seems to be. And she has to come to grips with that fact.
BBB: How many more books will there be in this world?
JG: Right now, I have two more books planned in this world. I am looking forward to writing them for sure. It is a story that has been in my head for a very long time and it is a good feeling seeing it get written down.
BBB: Did you do any kind of research to determine the details of your characters lives / lifestyles?
JG: I based a lot of my characters off of friends that I knew in the Air Force and family members of mine. My crazy family has given me plenty of material for my writing. I come from a very large family with a lot of history.
BBB: Are you a plotser or a pantser? or a Planster (a combo of both – lol)
JG: I guess you could call me a planster. I do have a general idea how my book will go, but a lot of the time I am going by the seat of my pants, which to me makes it a whole lot more fun.
BBB: What types of creatures can readers expect in your world?
JG: The kind that will make you give the shadows in your room a double take and check under your bed to make sure everything is okay. At least that’s how I want you to feel.
BBB: Do you ever come up with anything so wild that you scare yourself, that leaves you wondering where that came from?
JG: I once thought up a scene for A Night at Death’s Door where a character was brutally tortured. I won’t say how because I don’t want to give out spoilers, but it made me stop and think I have to be really twisted inside somewhere to come up with that.
BBB: What’s coming up for you in 2014?
JG: Right now, I am going through the self edits of a book I wrote called ‘The Soulsword’. A fantasy YA book that I wrote last year. I intend to shop it around to see if I can find it a home. I also intend to finish up the third and final book concerning Andrew and his story that begins in The Beast Within. It should really be a fun year for me writing wise. I look forward to giving people a good scare.
