GoodReads Summery:
Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she's an Elder but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she's betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and she doesn't even know his name.
Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky Southern girl and to fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is and not what she'll be.
As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head or her heart win the battle?
My Review
The cover is very beautiful.
Amelia finally decides to move away from her seemingly crazy father who pushed both she and abandon by her brother, Cole, away. She thought that the freedom will be sweet. Whole life Amelia has hidden her powers in shame.
She was wrong - At the beginning She is having too much fun flirting with a very hunky human boy, Aidan. and then things started to go south very fast.
It started with a strange vibe about her best friend’s, Bethany (cheeky Southern girl), new boyfriend whenever he is around. Her control her magical ability pulsing inside of is crumbling. side by side with new disturbing new discoveries about herself.
Magic comes with a price.
And also, her decisions. Whatever she path she is choosing, is going to affected everyone around her.
Amelia’s understanding of everything around her is growing and her part in the scheme of things. She discovered the history of her race of Mages and their murdered Elders, their queen(her queen, her action against the 5 fractions of races(Elders, mages, Ani-mages, Hunters).
She was betrothed at birth to the son of the evil queen of the immortals that she has never laid eyes on. Her father refuses to talk about any of it leaving her completely unprepared for what is coming.
In the next few weeks things escalate quickly on all counts and Amelia is forced to make some tough decisions: Normalcy or earth-shattering power? Love or duty?
I loved the characters of Bethany and Micha - there were more reliable to me. Aidan was sweet, but somewhat his character were more flat them the others. Her brother Cole also Cole have more substance.
As for Amelia, I couldn't connect with her most of the time:
Her emotion was all over the book in frustrated cycle, the I as a reader chose to skip (and I admit I skipped too many paragraphs. I think (and it is not my first time, that this thought is crossing my mind), that in age 18 the character should be more mature in her approach to life. She was so occupied in her love like a 16(-) years old to give a deep thoughts how to deal with other things, so of coarse she made too many stupid decisions. And please, for the love of all that's holy, stop having her say, "I can't do this...I can't do this right now." Saying you can't do it doesn't change the fact that she is indeed doing it. Ugh!
Luckily her Bff and Micha saved her many times from herself.(Even Cole's dog Charlie did it - good dogie)
Her treatment of Aidan was bordered on shameful. I think he didn't deserved her most of the time. It make me wonder - Why does Aidan like her, why does he persist in trying to win her over? Subsequently why does Amelia like Aidan, only because he chose her? There isn’t anything special about him, other than the fact that he likes her, or is there?
Amelia gets lied to by...pretty much everyone, Amelia cries and gets depressed or attacked...repeat. She also lie a lot to those she care most too.(So are we talking hypocrisy?)
I was glade to find that thing started to change even though it was just at the end of the book. This change was enough to made go for the next book "Spells" and that is what i am giving the book 4 stars (Truly only 3.5 stars)
About the Author:
Bound by Spells
(Bound #2)
Aidan Montgomery hadn’t been prepared for Amelia Bradbury to walk in and then out of his life. He also hadn’t expected to find the powerful magic hidden deep within him for the last nineteen years, but he’s embracing it — finding more control and more answers every day. Now, with the help of Amelia’s best friend, Bethany, Aidan is on a quest to understand his destiny and find Amelia.
Amelia decided to stand by her duty, which meant walking away from her first chance at love. Trapped in Cresthaven at the Queen’s mercy, she spends her days with Micah — an ally she still holds at arm’s length — struggling to manage her heartbreak while keeping her mind focused on the task at hand. As she continues to unlock the secrets of the Keeper power, Queen Julia’s true motives reveal themselves, forcing Amelia to decide, yet again, how much she’s willing to sacrifice.
Will Aidan get to Amelia before it's too late, or will the very power that sustains them keep them apart?
